About Dr. Phillips
Dr. Phillips was born and reared in Marion, Indiana. After graduating from Bennett High School, he attended Indiana University where he received a bachelors degree with honors in psychology. At Florida State University, he earned a masters and then a doctorate in clinical psychology . Palo Alto VAMC (Stanford University affiliated hospital) was the site of his internship. His post-graduate supervision was at the Oklahoma City VAMC while he was Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
In Oklahoma, Dr. Phillips also held positions as a staff psychologist for an alcohol treatment program and later as director of a day hospital unit. In Atlanta, he worked as a corporate psychologist. He went on to serve as president of psychological services for Ridgeview Institute and as consultant for their dissociate disorders program as well as co-chair of the Annual Southeastern Regional Conference on Dissociative Disorders.
Dr. Phillips has researched, presented scientific papers and published articles in the areas of marital communication skills and fighting behavior, borderline personality disorder, dissociation, alcoholism, crisis counselling, suicidality, humor and nonverbal communication.
Dr. Phillips and his wife, Vicki, are happily married and proud of their three children, Lindsay, Chase and Taylor, who have kept them busy with their education and extra-curricular activities. Vicki's career is in the dental field.
Since 1988, Dr. Phillips has had a private practice in Atlanta where, with his broad clinical expertise, he works with couples to improve their relationships. Dr. Phillips also treats anxiety and depression, alcohol and drug abuse, personality and eating disorders, sexual and impulse-control problems (anger, lying, spending, gambling) and dissociative disorders. He also treats individuals with borderline personality and psychotic disorders. Dr. Phillips serves as a life coach, for persons who do and who do not have mental health concerns, to help them steer their careers and their lives.
